Great! I love this manga series

~3.5/5I took a little break since reading the previous volume, so I had to get back into the mood for volleyball. Since I'm also not a sports person, it took about half a volume for the excitement to kick back in.We're still in the fight with Blue Castle, and it's intense. We end the first round and then the second round, and of course we're halfway through the third round when the volume ends. Though, I was getting so worked up at the end of the second round, that for a moment I forgot that it wasn't the end.I love seeing all of the character development and relationship progress amidst the games. All of the Karasuno players are rather new and are still getting to know each other. It's nice seeing them come together to win, come to understandings and decide to move past problems. Especially Kageyama, who has to figure out how to play with all of his teammates that are not Hinata.We also get to know each team they're fighting. We got some insight in the competition between Kageyama and Oikawa. It was also refreshing to see Oikawa's teammates giving him a hard time, and their acknowledging his fakeness. It was interesting to see how he got where he is now, though.I'm hooked, yet again. V7 served as opportunity to give Sugawara some much needed screen time and development. Though he is a senior team member, his lack of ability as compared to the first year volleyball prodigy, Kageyama, and his lack of actual playtime, makes itself apparent fast. However, what he lacks in ability is quickly made up in his refreshing outlook brought to the team and his ability to handle the players emotionally. I also like his reliable by the books playstyle that helped carry us through the 2nd set preventing it from becoming a repetitive drag. I enjoyed the set of chapters with him in play as well as his outlook, I think he also is easily one of the more relateable characters in the series.The volume was also great for showing the growth of the egotistical tyrant Kageyama into a more open and willing to listen King. His social skills could be worked on but I like some of his changes. It was also funny especially his continued actions with handling the pair of Middle Blockers Tsukishima and Hinata in their own special ways.Excellent volume with good sketches and data features included.

I enjoyed this tale just as much as the others in this series. This one is a little more violent and deranged than Suicide Forrest and Catacombs. I personally enjoy those types of horror stories. The darker, violent, and depraved the better. This was not that bad on those levels, even a mildly horror enthusiast would enjoy it. I appreciate that each book is a stand alone and has nothing to do with each other. My favorite so far is Suicide Forrest. I think it is important and says a lot when an author can write in a series and not force you to purchase additional books just to get to an ending. Their writing and story telling alone should be enough to encourage additional purchases. That being said, I have read most of Mr. Bates' books and will continue to do so.

I had never read a Jeremy Bates novel until I read Helltown. I found it rivaling some of Stephen King's and Dean Koontz's early works---high praise indeed. I found it chilling and very believable, something which many horror novels are not. I will be buying more of Bates's works for sure !

Fast paced, and spooky, made even more so because the location of this "Worlds Scariest Places" is just about three and a half hours from me. I told my husband we have to go check the place out, just only during the day and not on HalloweenI couldn't give full stars because of numerous typos, didn't want to take a full star away but there's no way to no half stars.Not sure the epilogue was warranted, especially since it didn't really cover the characters we just read about. Would've been nice to know what happened with Cleavon, Beetle, Cherry and Greta.

This entry in the World's Scariest Places series finds a group of young adults out for a jaunt in an area known as Helltown on a Halloween night, looking into the rumors of hauntings. When they encounter a group of deranged serial killers and Satanists, they find the horror becoming all too real.This was a different kind of horror than what I think of as typical. This one is perhaps more horrifying than the supernatural type because one can imagine some of these horrors actually happening. The novel is fast paced and full of tension. While a bit graphic, I found it better than the WSP #1. It's a quick read, and definitely worth your time.

This story was entertaining. If you are a Bates fan and reading the series, you know he has specific characters in each book. Instead of giving a bad review saying he has the same characters, just be open to each variation he has on this team of characters.This story was fun because it was unlike the others in this series thus far.The only thing I struggled with was that I felt the story was very scattered and I had a hard time keeping up. There were a lot of characters in this book and the story was told from several POV’s.If you’re a Bates fan and reading the series and not complaining about his “constant character types”, read this book. It’s funny in spots and although sometimes (in my case) confusing, it was a different take on a “haunted” place.*** Fans of the movies The Devils Rejects & Texas Chain Saw will really enjoy this read.Also the ending does leave a lot of open ends but this doesn’t bother me as many scary stories often do not address every single detail. Some questions are better left to interpretation from your own imagination.

I couldn't finish. Not because of violence like some other reviewers, but because this is poorly written and some parts just don't make sense. This author would benefit from a good editor.A kid's head crushed by a radiator falling over? Skull fracture, maybe, but not a B movie head pulping. I quit where the character who is an RN reflects on giving handjobs to make nursing school money instead of even once assessing her friends who were involved in a rollover car accident. Maybe that character should go back to giving handies. Maybe the author should, too. Certainly can't write. It doesn't help the flow of this book when these All-Americans think and speak like Londoners. Not many Americans would use the word "bloody" as a curse word. Also, we reflect fondly on eighth and eleventh grade, not Grade 8 and Grade 11. There are many more even in the fraction of the book I read.

I began with Suicide Forest which I loved, then The Catacombs, which wasn't as good, then this one, Helltown. Really? A lot of stupid people, doing stupid things. Take the seven people going to the covered bridge in Halloween, even though they're grown adults going in to the woods on an Autumn evening, the West costumes and the women wear heels??? What about the red necks, hanging out with a doctor, really? They practice black masses together, raping and killing and worshiping satan. Ok. The doctor and his red neck brothers all went to a private school, growing into Satanists and one is a fully educated doctor while the others are retarded rednecks. BTW, the authors words, not mine. It was a silly book, not much made sense, and it was a disappointment.

I chose to read this book because I love the author Stephen King. This book was listed as being as good as one of King’s stories. The book started out slow and did not catch my interest. I closed this book multiple times but decided I would try to finish it hoping it would get better.The author bounced throughout this book. There would be an interesting chapter but the next would focus on a character and their background. Later in the book he introduced more characters that threw me off. I couldn’t understand why they were added or their purpose until I moved further into the final chapters. The ending shared nothing of what happened to the character named “Beetle” or the co-character introduced around the same time. Instead, the ending went to an entirely different scene.I will try reading more books by this author in hopes they turn out differently than “Helltown” had.

My daughter did a Biography report on Anne Frank. She was 8 and in 2nd grade. This was a perfect book to read with her.

My son had questions so we got this book. Explained it perfectly for a child.

A nice introduction to Anne Frank. Great for younger readers or those with reading difficulties. The photos add to the comprehension and are not visually overloading.

Nice teaching tool for the classroom!

I bought this book for my daughter. I read it to make sure it was age appropriate and it was. The pictures told a true story with out scaring her.

my daughter really enjoyed reading this. It was very well put together. Very nice for elementary school-age children.

I got this reader for my eight-year-old daughter to serve as an introduction to Anne Frank before she delves into Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. After we both read it however, I must say I'm a little underwhelmed. The content itself is OK as it briefly covers the important events in Anne's short life from her early days in Germany, to her family's move to Holland, and later their hiding in the Secret Annexe, their capture by the Nazis, and the aftermath. As an introduction, it was fine, but I found the book wanting in terms of layout. The book reads like a scrapbook and not a very well-organized one at that. Alongside main information, there are smaller bits of info set off to the sides, and this can be very confusing for a young reader who has no knowledge of the historical context. Understandably, a lot of main events and descriptions are glossed over considering the subject matter, but I wish there was more thought put into describing Anne's vivacious personality and her keen perceptions. Also, the pronunciation guide is not altogether accurate - the pronunciation for Nazis is given as (NOT-sees] when it should be [Naht-sees]. The book looks good upon first glance but as a former history teacher, I found the way information was organized in this book to be rather disjointed and confusing, considering its target audience of young readers. My daughter and I enjoyed A Picture Book of Anne Frank (Picture Book Biography) much more than this lackluster effort.
