This is one of the most useful books I have read as a graduate student. Although I have acquired similar knowledge by reading thousands of articles, this book is a great foundation for any type of research involving cell cultures of biological barriers. It's specific strengths are an integration of cellular physiology pertaining to biological barriers (tight junctions, etc..), general uses and methods (ie. transepithelial electrical resistance), and cell line specific protocols with advantages and disadvantages. My only complaints about this book are that there is no clear distinction between the criteria for open circuit vs. closed circuit electrophysical methods and the way this chapter is explained could cause a novice to misinterpret the technical limitations of calculating short-circuit current. Beyond this, the authors experience in this area is exceptional and they are right on point as I have experienced in working with a barrier model. This book was well worth the price and a necessity if this is your line of research.
