From Booklist
In 1939, at the start of World War II, Christophe was six years old, too young to understand the increasing legislation against the Jews of France. Christophe and her mother lived in Paris with the author's grandmother; her father, a soldier, was taken prisoner by the German invaders. In 1942 Christophe and her mother were arrested as they attempted to flee Paris for the unoccupied zone in southern France. They were subsequently interned in French camps. In May 1944 they were deported to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany; in April 1945 the author and her mother were among hundreds of prisoners taken by train from the camp. After the SS abandoned the train, they were freed, and in June they were reunited with Christophe's father. Christophe's memoir can best be described as a series of snapshots--brief paragraphs, some no longer than a sentence, and written in the present tense. These simple "snapshots" relate cruelty in vivid detail. George Cohen

I had been searching for thos book online for well over a year, however, every option I saw had this book listed for close to $10,000!! Beautiful and profound and touching of a story as this is and as impressed I am with the story of Francine Christophe as seen in her video on human, I absolutely cannot afford that price. Who could! I asked a friend who is a teacher to help me try to find this book in the library as it was not in my public library, and she found it in a local College Library. But before I got to that Library, I found the book being sold at this site for approximately $25 at the time. So I immediately bought it. I am thankful to this seller for selling it at a reasonable price and not selling it for thousands and thousands of dollars, so that more of us can have access to it. As for the story of Francine Christophe, I'm thankful to her for sharing the story of her childhood. It is a profound story. If you have not yet done so make sure you search Francine Christophe and human to see the little video where she tells of the story about the chocolate, is what compelled me to get this book. The wisdom of Francine Christophe is profound, you truly do feel like you are in a concentration camp with her and observing this experience. You will probably cry when you read this book, so make sure you have some tissues or at least a good t-shirt to wipe your eyes. This will be a good book for anyone wanting to understand what being a concentration camp would be like as well as experience of refugees and the impact that we should try to be in the lives of our fellow human beings.
Francine Christophe's account of her experiences at the French Concentration Camps at Poitiers, Drancy and Beaune-La-Rolande, it is a very interesting book. She tells the story in a very personal way. She leaves nothing out and tells an honest story about her experience in the camps. Her honest writing helped me understand the hardship that a whole group of children survived during War World 2. I would want people to read the book and see what those people went through at those camps.
It is horrible, very real and at the same time beautiful.
