I don't quite understand the extremely high reviews for this book? I was looking for a good Thanksgiving book and chose this based on reviews but if my son didn't enjoy it I would send it back and I'm still thinking it will be one to give to the library book sale. I understand there is nostalgia here for some readers and I love the message that it doesn't matter what your home looks like, inviting someone less fortunate to Thanksgiving, and not judging someone based on the way they look but I find the story disjointed, having to explain to my son what they meant/what happened. Yes this provides us the chance to talk about the story together but I enjoy discussing stories with him not filling in blanks. I find the Grandmother unappealing - first casting out Mr. Whiskers then Mr. Horace and doesn't seem to acknowledge that she incorrectly judged Mr. Whiskers by the way he looks - he has to point out she shouldn't judge people based on whether they smell like lavender - she's just glad to find out who the thief is. My son does enjoy the book and we would like to try baking the bread so we will keep reading it for now and maybe it will grow on me

It's very, very good.A delightful story for Thanksgiving or any time.

This book is a well-loved classic. We're so pleased it's finally back in print. For years I've been giving used (usually ex-library) copies & finally I can give new ones. I'm tempted to buy a stash for gifts, and so my kids can have their own family copies. Great year-round message, but we continue to enjoy reading it around Thanksgiving every year. The singing, phrases & delicious recipe are all integrated into our family. Enjoy!

REad this as a child back in the 1980’s. It has great pictures and a good story. Don’t read a book by the cover or a man by the watch he wears.

Maggie & Grandmother don't have a lot of material things, but love...is plentiful. Each invites a "lonely guest" to partakeof their Thanksgiving dinner. ONE turns out to be a "scoundrel." Chris Cozen has done it again. I loved her book Acrylic Solutions Acrylic Solutions: Exploring Mixed Media Layer by Layer and I love this book, Acrylic Color Explorations every bit as much. I purchased the book sight unseen because I have learned so much from Chris Cozen from her helpful YouTube videos, her blog and her online presence. This book was so much more than I was expecting. I figured it would be helpful for choosing colors or how colors work well together. It is all of that, but it's also FILLED with examples, exercises and step by step demonstrations, not only in color theory but in art instruction as well.There are several artist profiles and for once they are not the same group of artists that seem to be in every other art book - almost all of them were new to me.In addition to being packed with information, this book is gorgeous to look at. The color jumps off the glossy pages, the font is easy to read and it's a hardbound book with spiral binding so it can lay flat and stay open while you follow the examples shown in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in making art - beginner to even more advanced as there are so many great color theory ideas.Every time I turn a page, I want to jump up and try the art or color examples shown on that page. I've included a photo to show the beginning of how I was inspired within minutes of opening the book. :)

this is my second book by Chris Cozen and as with the other book this one is packed with information I can understand. I'm a newbie when it comes to art and so many times the color in my mind and that that shows up on my board is not the same, in fact I make a lot of mud! Why? I saw other artist that use all these colors and they seem to meld well, why not mine. So when I saw that she came out with this Color book I had to get it and I'm not sorry. I like the step by step and it really shows how colors work together. Its been helpful for me and I will be keeping this book as a reference for a long time.

First of all, I love the spiral bound book because it always lays flat. The paints of today are so overwhelming; how do I mix them to get what I want, how do I create depth and make my painting "sing". When my painting needs something how do I figure out what to do instead of scraping it or painting over the entire canvas. Wow, this book answers these questions in a clear easily understandable way. Like usual Chris Cozen doesn't disappoint, this book is full of lively colorful examples that I "get". Thank for for writing a colorful informative book that self trained artists understand.

I have had this magnificent book in my studio for several weeks now and every time I sit down to share it with you, I open it up and find more treasures. Chris Cozen has personally taught me so much about color - about exploring, about not being afraid to make mistakes, about how colors play with each other. "Acrylic Color Explorations" is infused with information, techniques and demonstrations all encouraging us to experiment with the variations and nuances of color. I know I will be going back to this book time and time again -- for me, it is a studio must have.

I am now preferring CC's books over her videos. and the pricing is good esp. if you can get them at a discount. The videos are tedious, and I'm not a big fan of her voice (it's like a scolding mother's) lol But I am learning some new things with designs & paint, that I never was able to consider before.Having been a Faux Artist for over a decade, and very talented on various venues... I am delving into a whole new world of Mixed Media. There are things that cross over into each style of working with regard to paints. And same with products.While CC promotes Golden Paints - I am since learning that much of the paint & Plaster I have from working on Faux Finishing, can be used on canvas. In fact, at times; the quality of the paint I have is much better. Why? Because when you work on a Wall...it needs to stand up to time, temp changes, and UV rays.For now...this is opening up a new territory for me - with so many artists willing to share & being supported by Product Companies...for some, it's all about the money, than the creativity. We all won't get rich by this, but we might as well make a little money to support our talents. And a way of Life that many of us dream about - Doing what you love.

Chris Cozen's books and DVDs are permanent reference books in my studio. This book on color is just great. I learned morein the first 15 pages than in any other book I have on color. She has the ability to present difficult ideas in a clear way. I highlyrecommend this book to beginning as well as accomplished painters.

Well written, great photos and examples by one of the premiere mixed media artists/teachers in the US. I love Chris' clear explanations and comprehensive knowledge of the Golden product line. She's that good!

For someone who doesn't have a clue about color theory like myself, it's pretty informative. There are projects and lessons to help it "sink in".It's a hard cover spiral bound. Very handy for reference.

Great collection of Voguers from the late 80s NY scene. What a concept. Chantal Regnault was dedicated to capturing this underground scene and I , for one, am happy she did.

A great balanced insight and informative book into Voguing!One of the main resources I used for my dissertation.If you're looking for a book to learn about Voguing, start with this one!

Although I love Chantal Regnault's photographs from 1989-92 that record and report on the New York City underground ball world, this isa strangely random undertaking. Missing are images of the real `legends` turning it, the hallmark of the runway, and the interviews are so inaccurate that there obviously was no real editor involved in the project. Right out of the gate Hector Xtravaganza states that `Carmen is the Mother now since Angie died`. Danni was our Mother after Angie died. Following his death Raquel became the Mother, followed by Giselle. I would hate for anyone doing research on the ball scene to use this sort of information as truth. It isn`t. There are so many of us old schoolers around for fact checking. I`m sorry to see this kind of data recorded as fact.

I love this book. It's definitely accurate and informative to readers. The work put into this book was outstanding. The photos are exquisite. The photographer has the perfect eye. The interviews are extremely interesting. It's a MUST BUY.
