I don't know how Carla White does it differently from other authors, but I just understand the topics in her book at a whole new level of comprehension. Although there is a lot of personality in this guide, which I enjoy, it is more than the author's personal journey with her app development. It is an amazingly helpful guide that walks the reader through the process of creating their first app. I'm mid-way on the journey to creating my first app. This is a well-written highly understandable thorough guide for me.Right away, the author addresses many of the excuses a novice app developer imagines in their mind including my favorites: "I don't have the time.", "The app market is saturated. I don't stand a chance.", and "What if I fail?"."People want apps that give them superpowers, help them solve a problem, or simply let them unwind." Chapter 2 is all about the idea for an app. This chapter is my favorite since it is a gold mine of ideas and strategies.Finding, contracting, and working with a software developer for app code and test is the big topic for Chapter 4. Being a non-iOS seasoned coder myself, I am intrigued with how hard others find working with us. Humbling ...Chapters 5-7 are all about going live! I'm not there yet. However, the author has been there. She knows how.Everyone knows that success in the app store, or any endeavor, means going the distance. Something about perseverance.Pros: - There are numerous relevant links through the book. Several of the links have accelerated my development or provided a solution (e.g., tribes/proxies, cloud options, testing options/links, graphic design tips). - This is a personal journey for the author. She shares an amazing amount of lessons, tips, and advice based on actual first-hand experience. She includes failures (e.g., ambiguous screen mockups in a design spec). She has style and it clearly shows in her writing. - This is a hands-on practical book: process-based development, steps to succeed, list of tools, tribal proxies for feedback, relevant links, and lots of tips from the author. - It's a well-written guide that gets to each point succinctly. It is not an 1100-page programming reference manual - thank you very much!Cons: - None noted.Carla White has done a great job with this book. this is a very helpful book--full of tips, explanations, examples....incredibly helpful-from a very experienced app developer.

This book describes the process of creating an iPhone app, from the inception of an idea to marketing, design, development, and maintenance. A lot of the insights came from the author's own experience. There are lots of references throughout the book to companies, sites and tools to help an aspiring app maker on their journey. Although this book seems to be written for a non-technical audience, the marketing insights are useful for developers as well.

Excellent first book on the specifics of developing your first iphone app. Highly recommend it for individuals that have an app idea but are hesitant at trying to market the app.

This architecture book, along with their interior design book, gave me SO MANY ideas, concepts, pitfalls, things to think about, that I couldn't put it down. I thought I knew a lot behind the engineering for designing my next house, this book showed me how wrong I was. This is not written like a story book, nor is it just a technical-numbers reference... it gives a brief (technical) overview of each concept before presenting the numbers behind each reference. If you're used to reading stories or are looking for decorating ideas, look elsewhere. But, if you've also got an engineer's brain, you will love how this reads. I read this cover-to-cover, and will probably do it again more than once during my home design process.

A very practical and useful handbook for architecture students, recent graduates, and architects. The diagrams are easy to understand and the information is concise. It has everything, from the basics of architectural drawing and sketching to ADA guidelines and building codes. It is my go-to reference book when searching for those specifics I sometimes forget about or have any doubts. Really helpful!

I reference this book all the time as part of my job at an Architecture firm. The diagrams are well thought out and it has all of the code related information that I need. It doesn't, however, have some of the more esoteric and obscure codes that I occasionally need. But that's fine as it's only a small reference book. In summary, it's a handy little book to keep in a drawer at my desk.

Not a bad overview of the many aspects of Architectural Design.It is the "Cliff Notes" version presenting the "tip of the iceberg " essentials of topics that will require deeper study.A good starting point, and valuable for that purpose.

If youre an architectural drafter you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY must have this book. If you're learning or already know it all it is an excellent reference for what you need to know, forgot or just want to be sure of. Get it.

Love this book to this day I still will find myself checking it from time to fime to get some specs. Great size and the illustrations are wonderful. It really takes all the important information and takes out all the nonsense for you. Highly recommend for any architects library.

What architect or architectural student has not dreamed of writing his or her own quick-reference book? How many of us carry around notebooks crammed with precious bits of information, hard won from years of experience, both good and bad? This book is an excellent attempt to formalize the most important and useful of that information. It's an attractive book printed in four tones with the occasional full-color spread and a "travel guide" feel. I wouldn't call it "pocketable" unless your pockets can accommodate an iPad Mini, but it will ride along very comfortably in a pack or messenger bag.The author acknowledges the immense quantity of information architects must be prepared to wield on a daily basis. Any attempt at abridgment will invariably leave out some critical piece of information or another. This particular abridgment appears to be best suited to students of architecture, young practitioners, and related professionals such as real estate agents, facilities managers, and the like. While each section contains valuable information architects with more experience will quickly move from this book to the full resources, many of which are identified in the "compendium" section of this book (though strangely the book references old versions of some of these resources).The inclusion of several pages devoted to hand-drafting implements and methodologies, and the omission of any mention of Building Information Modeling whatsoever is perplexing, particularly for a book published in 2013, but perhaps somewhat understandable given the author's professional academic background. Still, if the author intends to argue that software are tools and that tools should be taught on the job why devote an entire chapter to AutoCAD?In the end, I'm keeping this book as a really decent resource, but I think such abridgments would be more successful if they were tailored to particular real-life job descriptions (i.e. student, job captain, project architect, etc.).

After years of drawing stick figures, I wanted to learn how to draw in a way that another person could actually get an idea of what my pictures were supposed to be. I started 2018 with a book that has something that can be drawn everyday. So far so good. As a fan of Flow products, I was thrilled when I saw they were coming out with this, and even more excited when I got my copy.The book is a softcover with a cover of decent thickness. The dust jacket comes off, and the flip side of it is a poster covered with encouraging quotes. The book itself is divided into four parts: home, garden, style and nature. Some of the things that you can draw are: a house, cup and saucer, bookcase, desk, wicker chair, wood-burning stove, lamp, filter coffeepot, clothesline, flowers, flowerpot, herb garden, watering can, bird, porch swing, plants, radish, lemons, garden tools, hat, cat, flourishes and accents, thermos, tents, wood cabin, leaves, camper and more.Since it’s from flow, it is stuffed full of additional goodies: There is a house that is printed on stiff paper, folded in half and already decorated, along with a second one for you to fill the rooms with whatever you want in them. There is a little booklet that can be removed for your own drawings. There is a set of connected paper dolls that can be removed for you to dress by drawing your own outfits. There are also postcards to decorate, additional blank pages to do what you want with, colored paper and paper to trace with. The pages throughout are fairly sturdy, better than the paper in most softcover books.I highly recommend this. This is such a fun book for the price!

This is a gorgeous book that can easily be a journal of sorts - Obviously plenty of tips for drawing specific things and space to write, images to drawn and cheerful messages to read. I adore it :)

This is such a fun book, with the classic Flow Magazine inclusions, which include postcards, a paper doll to dress, and much more! It is filled with plenty of detailed drawing instructions, as well as inspirational completed drawings for further explorations. Some of the drawings are very basic, and others are more advanced. I also like that there's a variety of artists' represented, so it exposes the reader to various styles and genres. I highly recommend this book for people of all artistic levels, for it's creative stimulating content!

I ordered this about a month ago and couldn't wait for it to arrive. It is the sweetest book for anyone who likes to doodle and try new media. Simple pointers and examples of techniques and JUST PLAIN FUN. I'm a long time doodler and love the simple layout, colorful examples and "goodies" included in the book. I use it for enjoyment in my quiet time, but also when I need a creative break from my graphic design business. It's a great way to get my hands-to-art, especially when needing a break from my computer! I LOVE this book. I hope you do too!

This book is just so beautiful. And there are so many extras included, such as colored paper, textured paper, paper dolls, post cards, and more.When purchasing I was surprised to see all 5 star reviews and that made me question if they were legit reviews. After receiving the book, I TOTALLY understand why every review is 5 stars. This is just a lovely, beautifully done book. There’s so much inspiration to be found here.I’ve included a photo of my doodles from the first exercise. Cute and fun.I should also note that I am an experienced artist and have taken drawing classes, but I’m always looking for inspiration and I just love new books, which is why I purchased. This book would be great for beginners, but I love it for where I’m at in my artistic journey as well. It’s a book for anyone!The only negative was that one of the included items, a little notepad, was slightly bent because it slipped out of the bottom of the book. Not sure who’s fault that would be, but it really wasn’t a big deal to me.

I found myself under the weather and not able to go out for a couple of weeks so ordered this book, some paints etc. This book is lovely. It has beautiful illustrations, ways to draw different things in life, foldouts etc. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a little happiness and tranquility in their life because sitting and immersing yourself into this creativity will bring you a most certain calm.

This book is FULL of ideas to simply get started putting pencil to paper or add color with paints. Both my 5 year old and I love working with this book together. It is packed with projects- both more loose and inspirational and step by step drawing. Different styles keep it fun and challenging. Plus. It just feels so good in your hands.

I have worked on my drawing for years, with classes and routines and tutorials and even though I received compliments, I never felt much confidence or comfort. This book offered me a breakthrough, by taking everyday subjects and showing how different artists played around with them and injected their own humor and tastes and experiences. It made me realize that the pleasure in drawing isn't so much about representing something perfectly (although skill improves with practice) it's about the fun of imagining what could be - of drawing a whole cupboard of funny objects, or a set of mysterious teacups, of drawing a pig and then re-imagining the pig in a completely different situation. This book is much more than it has to be - with really cute project ideas and inserts. But I think the real value is in the examples provided by the featured artists. It's a great collection. Very cozy and engaging.
