This book was an excellent true crime book. I remember the murders at the time because I lived in Wisconsin and was just a little younger than the victims. It was a real page turner, hard to put down. However, there were three things I disliked about the book:- The author decided it was necessary to change almost all the the names in the book, including the victims. I agree with many other reviewers that this was completely unnecessary, stupid even.- There were absolutely no pictures. A true crime book can't get 5 stars from me if there are no pictures. Since the author changed most of the names, no pictures. He still could have provided pictures of buildings, locations, houses, police officers, etc.- The hair analysis included in the testimony during the trial was completely understandable and boring. That was the only place that the book truly bogged down. I would try to finish the book with only a few pages left, but put it down over boredom and frustration. That was the second book in a row I read that bogged down in the forensic testimony of the trial, the last being Jody Picoult's fictional Plain Truth.I planned to give this book 5 stars the entire time I was reading it, but those three factors, especially the last, gave it a downgrade. Every time a new person of interest was brought in, I wondered if he would be the killer. False alibis eliminated some people. It is a very well-written, even exciting book except for those three complaints.

Very well written novelist treatment of a series of gruesome murders, in the style of In Cold Blood. Community reaction and police interactions are nicely spelled out. The author admits changing names to protect privacy and reputations. Great idea, but he goes too far in changing the name of the killer which was splashed all over the newspapers nationwide. In fairness, this book was written in 1976 and standards may have changed. Curiously, true names were used for the lawyers who are apparently immune to privacy and reputation damage. It is also fascinating to contemplate how police techniques and DNA analysis have changed the landscape. This is a good read; for a true names up date, try Wikipedia.

Interesting read for the first 3/4 of the book or so, although I lost a bit of interest at the end with the courtroom bla bla bla and skimmed a lot of that because it bores me. However, that's usually the case with any of the courtroom parts of these types of books. Other than the monotony of the end, I thought the beginning and middle were well written and I liked how the author did NOT dwell on things that were probably boring to most people.

The Michigan Murders: The True Story of the Ypsilanti Ripper’s Reign of Terror by Edward Keyes, tells the story of the brutal murder of six young woman and one thirteen year old girl in the college towns of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Michigan. These crimes occurred between 1967 and 1969, when hitchhiking and walking through deserted areas did not necessarily inspire fear or caution.These were all brutal sexual murders. As is so often the case, the killer was questioned early in the investigation, but police did not take him seriously, and did not have enough evidence to tie him to the murders until an additional six women were killed. By that time, he had become sloppy and overconfident; when he was arrested, he never admitted to the crimes. He continues to deny them to this day as he serves life behind bars.He was only tried for the last murder, on circumstantial evidence, and one of the seven victims was tied through DNA evidence in 2014, to another man who was convicted of the murder. So one is left with a curious sense of void at the center of these crimes. Despite a conviction, questions linger. Points don’t match up. There is a curious sense that something is not yet resolved. It gives one a sad sense of the human inability to both discover and punish the evil ones among us.

I was in high school when the "Michigan Murders" took place. So I looked forward to reading this true crime story. The writing was excellent. It got bogged down in a few places where the author got a little too involved with minutia. However, it kept me turning the pages...even though I already knew how the story ended. My major complaints are:1 Why change the names of those involved? This was stupid. If he had written a book on the JFK assassination, would he have made the title, "Who Killed XYZ?"2. No pictures. Really? Not one photograph of anyone or anything? That's done in crime NOVELS, but not in TRUE CRIME STORIES as a rule of thumb.In any case, it was worth the read, especially if you were in the area during the time of the murders, or just wanted to know more about this gruesome crime against women.

Living nearby I found the book interesting as I was able to locate all of the sites. I found it unnecessary to have changed the names of the characters though. It's not as if no one read the news at that time.While there was a lot of speculation on events, it at least seemed consistent and gave the feeling of being there.Obviously the narrative should be taken with a pinch of salt as only the murderer would know the actual facts, but it's a good novel if nothing else.

A bizarre case with many twists and turns but Keyes masters it all with a deft touch. The pace never slows and that is a huge plus considering the story. Love the way Keyes retains complete mystery for the first half then once the evidence closes in concentrates on the accused. Once again this case was new to me though not to a lot of Americans no doubt and that probably added to the appeal from this reader but Keyes is a man who knows how to entertain and his intense research pays off in many ways. First class

An excellent well researched true crime drama. Although written forty years ago, it is still fresh. Not clear why the author changed the names of all the principles. (except for the psychic)There is some gruesome detail, but it was a gruesome crime spree. The author, who co-authored TheFrench Connection gives a captivating narrative.

It therefore fast-tracked my understanding of how the language works, and improved my ability to correctly guess what words mean or what form of word to use when I don't know it from rote learning. This book taught me tips that made Portuguese easier than French (because there are fewer exceptions to regular forms of verbs and pronouns, and because the words give better clues as to the gender of nouns).

I use this book along side conversing with native speakers and making/studying flashcards and it does a great job of filling in the pieces of language that you miss in those two exercises. Grammatical rules and explanations for how words change and how they are used idiomatically is a great help when trying to learn not only the formal contractions but also why they don't apply in many colloquial circumstances.Use this in conjunction with your other language learning tools and you'll be great!

Tough to find a reason not to have this book if you want to learn Portuguese. Cheap, concise, portable and well-made. Definitely recommend! As an English native with strong Spanish, it has helped me make quick progress and goes great with speaking practice vía intercambio.

This book is very easy to read and very thorough. each concept is explained very simply and concise. if there is any confusion on when to use a specific grammatical forms, this book will clarify. it has everything you need to know about portuguese grammer, even the stuff that nobody ever uses. my girlfriend, who is Brazilian, uses this book to check up on certain things from time to time. Like i said, this book is for all levels of learning. although, i would imagine that some high level purists would prefer a grammar book written in Portuguese to really immerse yourself. but, the grammar is all here in this book for all levels.the book is written in english for first language english speakers. if you dont speak english very well then some of the concepts might not make sense. only grammar included, not much vocab. you will learn a lot from the examples but to really learn portugues you'd probably need another tool to help you with vocabulary. not quite sure what those tools are, but one thing i heard of is to put post-it notes on things around the house with the portuguese word. not too bad... rossetta stone may be good for you. everybody learns differently, you need to find a method that works for you.

I bought this book, lost it, then bought it again. It's that good.Sometimes it's difficult to understand the concepts of Portuguese grammar, but this little book does an outstanding job of explaining it to an English speaker. It's very straight-forward and logical. The only complaint is that it's a little outdated (published in the 60's) and it generally leans toward Portugal Portuguese, not Brazilian. There are also some archaic terms, such as combining "de" and "um" for "dum". This is never used in Brazil. But it's got a great price and like I said, I bought it twice.An excellent tool for anyone studying Portuguese.

Easy to read and straight to the point. Good reference to have when brushing up on your Portuguese.

Useful for a beginner. Different format than I am used to but I found it to be very satisfactory.

This is it, I finally found a comprehensive, exhaustive and very, very clear guide that will give me a wide knowledge on Crochet, thus opening me the way to a lot of patterns I was longing to make but haven’t dared doing so far.I found in the books stitches I never saw (I’m and intermediate crocheter) and wonderful, effective and useful techniques.Everything is explained very clearly and to a very satisfying depth, with clear photos.This book will give you very solid bases and techniques on every aspects of crochet.I first bought the hardcover and when I saw it I immediately bought the kindle version, to have it always with me on the phone when I need some help and I’m away from home.As to the patterns, they are modern and beautiful, no old bo-ho designs here!There are other excellent books on crochet (and I bought a lot), but when it comes to “general” books not specialized in a particular technique, I think that this is THE ONE for me.I absolutely recommend ot to both beginners and intermediate crocheters, though I think that also advanced ones might be interested.

This must be the best crochet course book ever written. I have a few, including the one from Rowan, which goes directly into the stitching almost immediately. This book, however, gives you the why of doing something a certain way. It tells you how to choose the right yarn for the right project, It gives you so much up-front information, that all your questions are answered before you ever pick up the hook and lay it to yarn. In fact, you don't do that until page 72 when you make your first swatch. It is written with humor and compassion and will hold your interest. Everything they teach you is taught in a specific order to help you actually learn the craft. Projects were developed that use the skills taught up to that point. Also, the projects are things anyone would enjoy not only making, but wearing or giving as gifts. You won't find things like granny sqare handbags, belts or doggy coats. What you will find are beautiful garments and an afghan in which you must change yarn colors in the middle of a row. The pictures are gorgeous and very explanatory in themselves even without the accompanying text.There are close to 200 stitches that they teach you and have you make the swatches for so that you will be prepared and accomplished enough to make the accompanying project. Each swatch and or project builds your skills so that you will be able to make the next project and the next.Also, at the end of the book, diagrams for every stitch imaginable is included. I don't know what else they could have included in this book to bring one from a beginner to an accomplished crocheter. Thanks, guys..Great job!

I love to take their courses at knitting conventions, and now they've condensed all (well, not ALL, but most!) of their considerable knowledge into one book. I have been crocheting for more years than I care to remember, but after skimming through the book I've already picked up some tips & tricks that I never heard of before that will make my finished projects so much more attractive!! This book is a must have in your crochet library. I have been crocheting for a decade and make mostly cardigans. The section on decreasing stitches is a life changer .These guys have found better looking techniques that are just as easy .The stitch patterns are all well done and include diagrams. I would love to take a class with the Shibaguyz !

Wow! What an awesome book. For someone trying to teach themselves crochet, this book is a must. Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know. This book is crammed with information. But more importantly, the book is very thoughtfully designed in a comprehensive progressive style that builds on your previously learned skill as you work your way thru it. I really like that each stitch, motif, cable, or pattern stitch includes tutorials, the text (as it would appear in a pattern instruction for a project you might do) and the diagram. So you learn to read a pattern, as you learn to do the stitch. I can watch you tube tutorial on how to crochet a new stitch (very helpful). But if you can’t read a pattern, you can’t make all the beautiful designer projects out there. This book is a wonderful teaching guide, reference guide and tool in my journey to become a better crocheter. Thank you Shannon and Jason for helping me get to the next level.1

Larry A. Bauer, Pharm.D. is a Professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and has been on the faculty since 1980. Chandler Medical Center at the University of Kentucky under the preceptorship of Dr. Paul Parker. Dr. Bauer is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Dr. Bauer's specialty area is in clinical pharmacokinetics, and he teaches courses and offers clinical clerkships in this area. He is a reviewer for several scientific publications, was Consulting Editor of Clinical Pharmacy (1981 - 1990) and Field Editor of ASHP Signal (1981 - 1983), and is currently on the Editorial Boards of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. Dr. Bauer has precepted post-doctoral fellows in clinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics who currently have faculty appointments in schools of pharmacy or are employed in pharmaceutical industry.

Over the decades, because organized psychiatry, represented by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), convened numerous consensus panels that designed hundreds of non-biologically-based "disorders" for its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) especially suitable for the pill-for-every-ill pharmaceutical industry that conceivably already had many profitable solutions for the "disorders," in the pre-production process. The consequences have been disastrous with no discernable end in sight - some people taking prescription drugs or withdrawing from them have perpetrated school, mall and public shootings. That is in addition to thousands of suicides that the public never hears about, unless the victim is a well-known public figure like Robin Williams. Just the military-related suicide rate is 8,000 per year -untold numbers of these are the result of the psych drug cocktails doled out by psychiatrists working for the VA. The government is big pharma's largest customer. In addition to the homicides and suicides, irreversible brain damage results from drug remedies to temporary problems that might have been easily resolved through compassionate interaction and talk therapy. I have read Deanna's Elite Trilogy and a majority of her posted articles on her website, and have listened to many of her shows. The information contained in the first 30 pages of "Screening" is worth the price of admission. I enjoy reading the footnoted reference materials, and this book is loaded. If you are sitting on the fence regarding vaccinations, or believe blindly that our government has our best interests at heart, read this. If you believe that Sandyhook never happened, read this. It does have a couple of typos, being a first edition, but the information more than compensates for them. If you want a comic book, read Beck,.this book stands on it's own without an elitest agenda. Without an apology.

The title of this book “Screening Sandy Hook – Causes and Consequences” doesn't do justice to the broad scope contained within. For those who are skeptical, or even just curious about the events of December 14, 2012, your questions are answered and then some, as Ms. Spingola leaves no stone unturned in her pursuit of the truth.The book is divided into 5 parts: Part 1 - Vaccines: The Primary Assault Part 2 - The FDA: Protecting the Corporations Part 3 - The Psych Drugs, a Secondary Assault Part 4 - Predictable Violence and its Aftermath Part 5 - Operation Damage Control In part one Deanna covers the history of vaccination in this country, the rise of vaccine-related disease and injuries, and damage control for the pharmaceutical industry, otherwise known as the Simpsonwood Conference. “Simpsonwood, Opinions Trump Science” is a revealing glimpse into the world of the CDC, and how they use the tactics of consensus opinion rather than scientific studies to form policy. Part 2 is an excellent expose on the FDA, which is supposed to protect the public from dangerous food and drugs, and falls extremely short of those goals, with disease and death the inevitable consequence. In Part 3, Deanna explores the psychiatric industry, and discusses how the DSM – Diagnostics and Statistics Manual – the psychiatric guide, creates names for mental illness based on consensus, and not science. The ill-advised, dangerous practice of the psychiatric drugging of children is also covered in this section. Part 4 is partly a study of Adam Lanza, a “ticking time bomb”, and his descent into madness. Also covered in this part: psychiatric screening, and the policy of never letting a serious crisis go to waste. The government, along with the pharmaceutical industry used the tragic events at Sandy Hook to “...impose a previously conceived mandatory draconian mental health care system on American citizens under the guise of preventing such horrific tragedies in the future.” Part 5 is probably the most important part of the book, as it addresses the aftermath of Sandy Hook, and the intrigue and disinformation that was and is rampant in the alternative media. People view altered, truncated or looped youtube videos and jump to incorrect conclusions regarding Sandy Hook, never taking the time to research for themselves, and then it's on to the next big news event. In contrast, Ms. Spingola has done due diligence in every aspect of this book, which becomes obvious as one progresses through the pages. As usual, Deanna thoroughly documents her sources, which are extensive (1497 footnotes). I recommend this book for everyone, especially those who are concerned about the many and varied issues addressed therein, such as the vaccine schedule, psychiatric drugs, especially as prescribed for children, school shootings and MCI's (mass casualty incident), and how they are used to further agendas, and imposters and provocateurs in the so-called truth movement.

According to Adam Lanza's father he took lexapro for a few days and otherwise was not medicated. Certainly children in this country are over-medicated, but tying it into Sandy Hook is an improbable leap.
